A recent presentation at the Des Moines 140 Character Conference featuring NOVEC 1230 Fire Protection Fluid held the attention of roughly 150 persons in attendance. The conference was held this past May at the Stoner Theater in the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines. It was simultaneously broadcast over the internet. This is a clip of my presentation entitled: It Sucks To Be Left Behind.
The 140 Character Conferences seek to highlight the use of social media in a variety of ways. I took the wild chance of submitting an application about how I’m trying to position myself (and my company, Protex Central) as the “go-to” solutions provider. I’ve had several inquiries on the agent and much disbelief that it’s not water. It’s not magic – it’s just technology at it’s best.

When I finally decided to get active with all this Web 2.0 stuff, little did I realize how “linked”, “faced”, “tweeted”, “blogged” and “googled” I would become.
And so it is that I’ve been selected to present at the upcoming Des Moines 140 Conference “Exploring the State of Now” on Monday, May 9 at the Stoner Theater of the Des Moines Civic Center at 1:50 p.m. I’ll be one of a cast of characters to talk about our experiences and uses of all these various social and communication mediums.
One of my LinkedIn associates suggested I check-out this upcoming conference and put my hat in the ring. So, I did. Here’s the blurb that I submitted. My headline was “It Sucks To Be Left Behind.”
I’m a relative newbie to this Web 2.0, Social Media gig. But at 50 years of age, I’ll be darned if I’m gonna miss getting with this program. I’ll admit it…I’m just getting started and am not as widely “linked”, “faced” “blogged” or “tweeted” as others, but I can share my beginner’s experiences in a fast paced, clear and concise presentation. I can also share why, from a business perspective, leveraging LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter is a no-brainer.I’m certainly no expert on the technologies, but I am an expert on my experiences.

Tampa Bay Ray’s star first baseman, Carlos Pena, and I were recently featured together in a teleseminar hosted by Dr. Tom Hanson of Heads-Up Performance.
Hanson was interviewing professionals who’ve had a “career year” and seeking insights on how it was accomplished.
